SchooLife

ABSTRACT: We had, in our life as students, experienced with different kinds of electronic school registers with UX of dubious quality. Because of this, we decided to create SchooLife, a new electronic school register whose main purpose is to improve communication between schools and families.

BRIEF: Since Android is the most popular mobile OS it has to be done as an app for this OS and that follows Google Material Design guidelines. The extra features we decided to focus on are the possibility to handle the view of school grades in base on a goal (student's target) and the possibility for the parents to propose a parents' evening to professors without having to use mails or via his/her sons

PERSONAS (Parents)

  1. AZIZ - Fear that his son doesn't go well at school as he should, that he loses motivation in the study and that he doesn't communicate his results

  2. MARIO - Fear that his son doesn't study and/or his teachers don't prepare him well

  3. PAOLO - His son is doing poorly in school, he is afraid that it is the wrong school for him but he is not sure, he tries and cares very much to have a dialogue with the school and the teachers to understand the nature of his son's situation


Design concept

The extra features we have chosen to focus on are the ability to manage the display of school grades based on a goal (student's goal) and the possibility for the parent to propose a parents' evening to the teachers without having to go through email or child.

The palette we decided to use is Light Blue 50

Happiness factors (Parents)

  • The distribution chart that can be viewed in the school grades section will help Aziz and Mario to be clear about their son's academic performance.

  • Mario will be able to understand if his son is attending the class thanks to the roll call and the last delays and absences in the 'recent' section.

  • Thanks to the parents' evening section, in which it will be possible, after having indicated one's own, to send a request to the professor in which he/she will be able to mark his/her availability (using a form), Paolo and Aziz will be able to agree with the professor in case they are not able to go to the hearing at the pre-established times, without the need to use the email (to avoid that the request gets lost). The professor will then fill out the response form which will be scanned to update the parents' evening availability in the parent's section, which will be notified in the 'communications' section.


Demo prototype

The prototype was initially designed in Adobe Xd and then using Axure RP toolset to make micro-interaction prototypes.
